Secondary Data Review Matrix: Guidance Note
April 5, 2016
Secondary data is data collected by someone other than the user. A secondary data review is one of the several existing methods to consolidate information in a humanitarian emergency. Methods recommended by the global level CPWG for secondary data review include conducting a desk review (Desk Review tool or using the SDR matrix. The global level CPWG also promotes primary data collection - Data observed or collected directly from first-hand experience - using the data collection tools in the CPRA Toolkit, and situation monitoring. The SDR matrix and Desk Review tool serve a similar purpose of consolidating information that already exists. The SDR matrix consolidates child protection information in an excel spreadsheet allowing disaggregation and analysis of information by geographical level, affected population, domains, etc. The Desk Review tool is Word-based.
